In addition to maintaining her thriving private clinical psychology practice, Dr. Umar is also a psychologist at Clinicas del Camino Real, Inc., a 15-facility healthcare system in Ventura County which provides high-quality, affordable treatment services to the region’s under served population. In this important role, she conducts intake assessments, administers psychological evaluations, and provides individual therapy sessions to the clinic’s many clients.

Prior to joining Clinicas and opening her own practice, Dr. Umar was a psychological assistant in private practice in Santa Barbara. At the same time, she served as program director and psychotherapist of inpatient alcohol and drug rehabilitation at Malibu Beach Recovery Center in Brentwood, California, and as a psychotherapist for Child Abuse Listening & Mediation (CALM), a nonprofit dedicated to preventing childhood trauma, healing children and families, and building resilient communities throughout Santa Barbara County.

Previously, Dr. Umar was a lecturer at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB). At UCSB, Dr. Umar was also an undergraduate and graduate advisor who counseled students on academic and professional development concerns, and provided sensitivity training regarding cultural, economic, social and academic diversity issues.

Dr. Umar holds a B.S. in commerce, with an emphasis in Administrative Management, from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Wisconsin International University. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Psychology from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California.
